Enjoy one-on-one learning with Rob Court. Practice drawing at various locations and venues in Pacific Grove, Monterey, and Santa Cruz. Discover the power of study sketches as you learn to capture a “likeness” of your subject.
Improve your observational drawing skills while using Rob’s Block/Sketch/Draw method. Explore traditional sketchbook media such as pen, pencil, and watercolor. You can even practice in-studio skills (easel, large paper, charcoal, etc.) or learn to apply analog drawing skills to a digital workflow on your iPad. For absolute beginners and practicing artists alike.
Rob will customize your learning path as you increase confidence in drawing from life and imagination.
Level 1: Learn to Block dominant lines and shapes to represent your subject while developing core observational sketching skills. Absolute beginners can explore various drawing materials and ways to grip the pencil. Learn how to measure accurate proportions as you build an abstract framework of your subject.
Level 2: Learn to Sketch specific shapes and contour edges of your subject as you “sketch through” and correct mistakes. Explore principles such as form, perspective, tonal values, and “life lines”. Develop foundational strategies that help you sketch swiftly and accurately. Experienced artists can also benefit from this level of sketching practice.
Level 3: Learn to Draw and refine details, finish lines, and tonal values. Discover the importance of rhythm, harmony, and composition. Work from prompts, challenges, and critiques from your coach as you draw from observation or imagination. Expand your drawing skills to areas of interest such as urban and field sketching, illustration, design, and concept art.
$295 includes:
- 3, 45-minute sessions:
- Email/text access to confirm your sessions or ask Rob questions about a drawing you’re working on.
- Participation in on-location small group, workshops. Special value: Each 2-hour workshop counts as 1, 45-minute Premium session
- Customized learning path that Rob designs as you progress through your sessions.

Time Limit: Upon purchase of your membership, you have a maximum of 5 weeks to complete your sessions.
Schedule Note: Currently, Rob’s availability is limited to only 5 Premium students per month. This allows him time to focus deeply on your drawing progress and to also spend time with his family, Scribbles Institute Publishing, and illustration projects.
